University of the Third Age - Pembrokeshire U3A
The University of the 3rd Age is a worldwide organization for the retired or semi-retired who are looking for opportunities to develop and enjoy a more active life style, mental as well as physical, in their retirement.
Members participate in a wide range of activities at the same time as meeting new friends and acquiring new interests.
All activities are led and run by the members themselves; Anyone with a particular interest or skill can lead a group, and anyone wishing to learn about a particular interest or skill can join a group.
Pembs u3a caters for everyone living in the county, and many smaller groups meet in peoples’ homes; but many of the groups meet in Neyland Athletic Club, which is a very comfortable and welcoming venue, and where the monthly general meeting is held at 10.30a.m on every first Thursday of the month.
Any potential member is very welcome to come along to this to see if there is anything there of interest to them.
At the moment there are over fifty different groups, ranging from “Armchair Travel” to Yoga, taking in Walking or Strolling, Tai Chi, Stretch for Health, Music and Movement, Learning German, French or Italian, playing Bridge, Scrabble or Mahjong; Photography, Computer Club, Natural History and Local History and many more. And if your particular interest is not covered, start a group yourself! You will never find yourself bored in retirement, once you join u3a!
Occasionally we organise a holiday and have been to Spain, Majorca, Tuscany, Brussels, as well as The Eden Project in Cornwall and Chatsworth in Derbyshire; usually about forty people join in these jaunts.
Annual subscription is a modest £12, plus an initial one off joining fee of £2.
Most activities take place in the mornings and afternoons, some weekly, some fortnightly and some monthly, and the subscription enables people to attend as many activities as they wish,as well as to receive a bi-monthly newsletter.
